Golden, CO – Aug 19, 2020 – One of the TRUBAR flavors, Day Dreaming About Donuts, has been named as a finalist in the prestigious Nourish Awards, known as the “toughest health foods award” in the UK. The brand of vegan protein bars developed by TRUWOMEN has been the result of a collaboration between ex-NFL athlete, Brad Pyatt, and his wife, Stephanie.
“Before founding TRUWOMEN with my husband, Brad, I would often eat a chalky protein bar, only to have my stomach in knots from the conglomeration of low-quality ingredients like whey and sugar alcohols,” said Stephanie Pyatt. “Inspired by how underserved women are in the protein space, I wanted to create a snack that women feel proud to eat and share.”
The Nourish Awards celebrates a new generation of foods that are made without artificial additives, dairy, gluten, or refined sugar. The organization seeks to increase awareness about the sugar and additives in heavily-processed foods. Winners will be announced on Sept. 18, 2020 by Naomi Devlin, a nutritionist, chef, and author. The gala will take place at the elite Cheltenham Racecourse in England.
The competition features 25 categories that include: paleo, plant-based, high-protein and sports nutrition, beauty foods, gut-friendly, and low sugar. Products entered in the competition can’t contain artificial sweeteners, flavor enhancers or additives. However, there are a few exceptions in categories such as Wild Card or Dairy with a Difference.
Entries will be judged by a blue-ribbon panel of industry experts, chefs, nutritionists, and health and wellness coaches. Judges for the 2019 event included Dragon’s Den star, Deborah Meaden. Winners in the 2018 competition included free-from brands encompassing Free by Doves Farm, Creative Nature, Nature’s Path, and Pulsin.
Pyatt and his wife have been working since 2015 to create nutritious snack and meal bars that also feature great taste. The nutritional bars that have been nominated are under the TRUWOMEN brand, part of the TRU Brands, Inc. portfolio. Only 200 calories, the bars are made with plant proteins encompassing brown rice, cassava and roasted almonds and taste like a favorite dessert.
